We recommend the use of a Prong collar ONLY with the help of an experienced balanced trainer.
When quality, durability and functionality are key. Our SOLID Leather Nested Prong with Herm Sprenger prongs and Brass cast hardware will not disappoint.
What makes the HDC Nested Prong different from all the other hidden Prong collars???
HDC NESTED PRONG is made of solid leather, casted brass hardware and locktite’d chicago screws. The collar is 1.25” wide and our standard 15-20” collars come with 8 prongs. We offer additional modifications based on the size of your dog and your needs. These collars will not tear, fray, or come un-stitched. There is no elastic to over stretch or get impacted by heat. No fabric to get dirty and lose its appeal. Every Nested Prong comes with Herm Sprenger prongs embedded into the high quality bridle leather base. The prongs become part of the collar and will not come out, come undone or bend where you would have to replace a prong. We even ensure the prongs are set in two directions, as recommended by Herm Sprenger, to provide optimal correction around the neck. You will no longer have to make adjustments to the prongs themselves. We use high quality roller buckles that you can use to easily adjust the collar to fit your dog.. or two. These collars hold up with very minimal maintenance. (Check our Leather and Crystals tab for our Leather care instructions). Our Nested Prongs are near invisible and work as good, if not better than any other covered prong. We use only high quality leather and hardware to make your Nested Prong. Its made of the same material we use for your $200+/- Bling collars. Quality and functionality is of utmost importance to us. No other maker on the market right now compares to our Nested Prong design to provide you a discreet, durable , and highly functional product that you can still customize to your liking.
How to choose your Prong Size. Prongs size is based on the length of coat, intensity of correction and size of dog.
Small prongs are the most commonly used prongs, and the ONLY prong size we offer at this time. They have thinner and far more contact points that provide a more distinct and accurate correction. They are also far lighter than the Large and Medium sizes, so they are not as prone to sliding down on slick necks. The small prong is sufficient enough to work on most dogs up to 100lbs and as small as ~35lbs depending on the circumference of the dog’s neck.
How to choose your prong color. Prong color is determined not only by the look but also the particular dog.
Curogan prongs are not only gorgeous to look at, complimenting Brass and Rose Gold Hardware, it also contains ZERO Nickel. This is a great option for Nickel sensitive dogs that may be allergic. The Curogan is made out of a high content copper alloy that gives it a rich color and is not as high of a risk at discoloring lighter coated dogs as the black.
Black prongs are made of stainless steel, which is then galvanized and given a black polymer finish. They have increased rust resistance as it will not rust even if the surface is damaged. This reduces abrasion even after years of use. These colors are great for humid conditions or those dogs that just enjoy being wet. The material DOES have Nickel, so its not recommended for dogs with Nickel sensitivity. HDC has chose to include the Black Prong as the base for our Nested prong, as it nearly disappears against the coat and in between the layers of leather. However, if your dog has a light coat, keep in mind this prong color can cause some coat discoloration. Continued use of these colored prongs, as with any metal that is colored, can cause lightening of the finish over time but, this in no way means the quality and strength are affected.
Stainless steel prongs are stronger and more durable than chrome. They are a great match for the lighter coats and they compliment our Nickel Hardware. These prongs do have Nickel in them so are not recommended for dogs with Nickel sensitivities. Stainless Steel prongs are also the strongest of all the prongs, having the highest tensile strength. Stainless steel can cause coat discoloration; there are reports of grey discoloration to white coats.
Chrome prongs are less expensive than stainless steel but not as strong. White/light coated dogs may have less coat discoloration from chrome prongs than from Stainless steel. We do not currently have Chrome prongs in stock, but are happy to special order these if you would prefer to have the Chrome.
What style of Nested Prong is right for my dog? How do I choose between the Ducati or Side Buckle Nested Prong?
The Ducati is our original Nested Prong. This design provides an adjustable martingale style attachment that moves very similar to a basic prong collar. The Pros of this design is that there is a more consistent draw on both sides of the collar, creating a correction that properly distributes pressure equally around the neck and toward the handler. The cons to this collar is that it requires you to unbuckle the collar every time you take the collar on and off and a chance that the strap could be dropped or lost, while removing or placing the collar on the dog.
The Side Buckle was designed originally to accommodate those who participate in Barn Hunt that need the assistance of a prong collar. Our Side Buckle Nested Prong collars are 100% BHA compliant and blessed by the founder and Director of Judges. The Side Buckle collar has been proven to be one of our most popular sellers. The side Buckle is rated for 500lbs, easy on the hands with a fast on & off. We combined the adjust-ability of the Ducati, with the quick release of a side buckle. The only draw back is the collar correction is somewhat between a martingale and choke chain. However, most of our clients find no real difference in how the dog responds. This collar can be adjusted to any size neck for very accurate fit. This design is harder to fit necks smaller than 15” as they would require a design modification using less prongs.
Do you prefer your Nested Prong to have a particular color outside of our stock Black and Burgundy?? Do you LOVE Bling and want your Prong to be as classy as you and your dog while still providing its Function?? We have options just for YOU!!
Custom Colors are available upon request for an additional fee to be discussed. We occasionally have some specialty colors in stock as we find deals we cant pass up. Any INSTOCK color will not be an additional fee. Generally these specialty colors are only offered for the top Panel of your prongs. The Base has to be very specific in thickness, texture and quality so we would likely not be able to guarantee their durability if we were to use anything else.
